The champagne corks popped across France when industry-related places entered the prestigious list of the world heritage. The United Nations declared that the ‘cellars, shops and farms’ significant achievements justified the award.  France has lobbied for  the decision for at least two decades. The report includes the legendary vineyard of Hautvillers where the monk Dom Perrignon invented the fermentation process which gives the champagne its sparkling character. The most distinguished producers expressed their delight at the news… which acknowledged their commitment to the delivery of the quality which upholds the tradition. The traders said that the award was a special distinction for all men and women who have developed the region, who ‘were driven by passion, courage and pursuit of excellence’.
