Several indicators (Wiele wskaźników) are suggesting that one thing we don’t need to be afraid of is the economic outlook for 2017. There are four leading economic indicators that separately and collectively (oddzielnie lub/ i łącznie/ jako całość) suggest things are positive for a better year ahead. Wage growth (wzrost płac) is beginning to pick up, consumers are increasing their confidence levels (podnosić poziom zaufania/ pewności) , and the industrial and manufacturing sides of the economy are also showing shifts in the right direction. While we shouldn’t be expecting drastic growth, things are slowly but surely looking better. And even more good news, wage growth is increasing faster than inflation, representing a real increase in spending power (siła nabywcza). With more money in consumers’ pockets, an uptick (drobny ruch w górę/ nieznaczny wzrost) in consumer spending is also likely. We are seeing continued improvements in employment as well, both in terms of the number of people employed and how much they are getting paid.

However, this is not to say that the economy is going to be greatly  robust (rozkwitający/ dynamiczny) and quickly return to 3-4% growth. All of this positive momentum is very sensitive (wrażliwy). The economy is still in a fragile state (kruchy stan/ kondycja), and it would not take much to derail the positive trend (odwrócić poztywną tendencję/ trend). Some factors to keep in mind that could derail the positive momentum: rapid inflation (gwałtowna inflacja) , a major stock market correction, a sudden trajectory shift to weak employment numbers, and/or a substantial hit to consumer confidence (znaczący cios w poziom zaufania konsumentów) . While the good news is that I don’t see a high probability of any of these things happening during the coming few months, we are not completely out of the woods  (nie wyszliśmy jeszcze w pełni z tarapatów) .

Parcel and pizza deliveries (delivery- dostawa) could be hit over the busiest online shopping weekend of the year after thousands of cardboard packaging (kartonowe opakowanie) workers voted for strike action over pay (akcja strajkowa dotycząca płac).

Workers at about 40 packaging factories operated by DS Smith, Saica and Smurfit Kappa have rejected a 2% pay rise (odrzucić 2% podwyżkę płac). Black Friday and Cyber Monday are  the busiest online shopping days of the year. Amazon and Domino’s Pizza are major clients of the factories.

Facebook almost tripled its profits (potroił zyski) in the third quarter of 2016 as the social media giant took an even larger slice of the online advertising market (rynek reklamowy). The company reported a 59% year-to-year increase (wzrost rok do roku) in advertising revenue on Wednesday.
