Pamiętajmy, że po czasownikach modalnych stosujemy bezokolicznik bez ‘to’:

  • fitness: I recommend that you should connect proper diet with moderate exercise/ lub z formą gerund: I recommend connecting proper diet with moderate exercise (umiarkowany wysiłek).
  • technologia: Due to the frequent intrusions, we recommend immediate tightening of the security system (natychmiastowe uszczelnienie systemu zabezpieczeń/ systemu bezpieczeństwa).

Delikatnie, choć wszystko zależy od tonu głosu:)! May/ Might:

  • biznes: You might try to do it again but this time with more attention to detail (to zdanie może zabrzmieć naprawdę ostro, mimo dość delikatnej formy “might”)

–zachęcać/ motywować  do… i zniechęcać do…  Niezwykle ważne i często stosowane, przydatne dwa wyrażenia. Przyimkowy koszmar dla polskich uczniów. Ze względu na bezpośredni charakter tłumaczenia, często popełniamy błąd, nie zauważamy: w języku polskim stosujemy przyimek ‘do’ zarówno po “zachęcać” jak i po “zniechęcać”. W języku angielskim odpowiednich polskiego “do”: ‘to’ stosujemy wyłącznie po ‘encourage’. Po ‘discourage’ stosujemy ‘from’:

pledge to, czasownik: zobowiązać się do/ oświadczyć/ wyrazić gotowość jest powszechnie stosowany do określania ważnych, doniosłych wydarzeń.

Medycyna:

  • The young doctors pledge to provide treatment and assistance to the patients irrespective of their material status and age, race,religion – Młodzi lekarze zobowiązują się zapewnić leczenie i nieść pomoc pacjentom, niezależnie od ich statusu materialnego, wieku, rasy, wyznawanej religii.
