The candidate met all the expectations at the job interview and got the job – Kandydat spełnił wsystkie oczekiwania podczas rozmowy kwalifikacyjnej i otrzymał pracę.

  • meet standards- wypełniać/ szanować standardy

If the president of the board doesn’t meet the standards, he should resign – Jeśli prezes nie szanuje standardów, powinien zrezygnować.

At my company we value creative thinkers. We observe the trends and try do our best to set them. We think about the future: how the customers’ preferences may change with the rising affluence of the society. A few years ago people bought cut flowers only to celebrate special occasions. Right now they do it because they want to ‘live with’ flowers every day.

The world is only just getting used to the smartphone revolution, but … Google’s Sundar Pichai is already thinking “post-mobile”. It’s no longer enough to program machines with all the answers or to rely on traditional statistical analysis to allow them to work out what’s what – instead, the firm now relies on techniques that allow computers to teach themselves by sifting through  massive amounts of data, learning from patterns, regularities and interconnections. The potential is massive, Pichai believes. “We’ve been mak(-e)ing a very meaningful progress in machine learning and AI. ”To some, Google’s strategy will seem terrifying: won’t artificial intelligence end up automating all jobs, and, in extremis, lead to a Terminator-style where machines take control?

–zachęcać/ motywować  do… i zniechęcać do…  Niezwykle ważne i często stosowane, przydatne dwa wyrażenia. Przyimkowy koszmar dla polskich uczniów. Ze względu na bezpośredni charakter tłumaczenia, często popełniamy błąd, nie zauważamy: w języku polskim stosujemy przyimek ‘do’ zarówno po “zachęcać” jak i po “zniechęcać”. W języku angielskim odpowiednich polskiego “do”: ‘to’ stosujemy wyłącznie po ‘encourage’. Po ‘discourage’ stosujemy ‘from’:

  • I will really encourage my daughter to take up studies abroad –  Będę z pewnością zachęcał moją córkę do podjęcia studiów zagranicą.

To popularne słowo, które poznajemy już w pierwszych miesiącach nauki języka angielskiego. Oczywiście, w kontekście scenicznym, teatralnym, etc.

Ale to słowo, które zrobiło o wiele szerszą karierę i na stałe weszło do  popularnych oraz specjalistycznych kontekstów ekonomicznych:

The performance of the selling targets is the prime duty in every team- Wykonanie celów sprzedażowych jest podstawowym obowiązkiem każdego zespołu.

The manager of the corporate-team performed very effectively last year- Menadżer zespołu firm korporacyjnych świetnie wywiązywał się ze swoich zadań/ obowiązków w zeszłym roku.

Technologia:

Prawo:
